On Sunday we went into the city to do some shopping for warmer clothes. Sue was intent on finding something in Neiman-Marcus - she did!! One her size had to be ordered, so it will be interesting if she still likes it once it arrives. We had lunch at their cafeteria - I had a chicken salad, Sue a spicy soup which she could not finish. We went back into the shop to seek a shirt for Sue, but had no luck so went looking into other shops. We found a hattery where Sue bought a new warm hat. After trying a few more shops we both had found shirts we liked and which fitted.
We then walked up to catch a cable car down to Fishermen's Wharf. After letting some pass which were over-flowing we eventually boarded one with standing-room only. It was the longest ride, up Powell St from Sutter, then up Jackson St to Hyde, then up and down to Victorian Park.
We had a drink at Capurro's Bar ( see http://www.capurros.com/ ) then walked around along Jefferson Street until we came to Boudin Bakery, a San Francisco institution for many decades (see http://www.boudinbakery.com/at-the-wharf ). They had hundreds of loaves of bread, some in baskets being transported overhead from the bakery area into 3 separate selling areas. We bought two cans of Clam Chowder (Boston style) and two loaves of bread for dinner one (or two) nights. We then walked up to Beach Street to catch a tram back along the Embarcadero to Market where the N-Judah line intersects. we were expecting to catch one of their retro-trams which are like 1940s buses, but ended up on a cable-car look-alike. We then had to wait over a half-hour for an N-Judah.
Once home we decided to eat out, but not far to not stir up my foot any more. We decided on Baan Thai House and Wine Bar on Irving Street (see http://www.baanthaihousesf.com/ ). They provided some beautiful food with delightful wines to match, and with bearable background music. We left very happy.
Sunset from 6th Ave.
