Well, the sun has finally broken through, although the day started quite cool still. After Sue headed out I wrote yesterday's blog, then headed out myself. Down 6th Ave to Irving Street, up to 5th Ave, then down to Lincoln Way which forms the southern boundary of the massive Golden Gate Park. I then turned east, then at 3rd Ave crossed over to Kezar Drive, which runs past an athletic field known as Kezar Park. I walked past this to Stanyan Street, then east again up the infamous Haight St. It seems that much of this part hasn't changed much since we were here in 1984-5!!
I stopped for a coffee at a small cafe on Cole, then headed up to the main intersection - Haight & Ashbury, after which the neighbourhood is known. I turned right up Masonic Street into the Buena Vista neighbourhood, just downhill from the park. Apparently a good view of SF is available from there, but as I had left the Studio with no map nor camera I wasn't aware of it. Most of the houses in this area are quite up-market, some with really fancy facades. If you have Google Earth and 3-d, check out the intersection of Masonic and Waller Streets.
I continued up Masonic to Frederick Street, then down to Cole, then south to Carl St. This is where the N-Judah tram comes out of its tunnel under Buena Vista park, so I decided to wait for a tram to take me to 9th Ave. Hopping off at 9th I went to the famous bakery - Arizmendi Bakery ( see http://www.arizmendibakery.com ) - where I had lunch of two slices of their (thin-crust) pizza. I bought 2 currant scones to go, for afternoon tea with Sue if she finishes early.
Still trying to find a venue for the AFL Grand Final which will be Friday night here. Last resort is to watch it on-line.
